hair color for brown skin

While light brown hair may not be as “exciting” as blonde, it can still look very complimentary against brown skin and is more ideal for the office (just in case you can’t get too experimental with your look due to professional standards). Light brown hair (think the color of honey or nutmeg) works well on light-skinned and medium light-skinned women with warm undertones, like Rihanna or Ciara. It gives the skin a natural glow and is subtle enough for a business meeting but bold enough for a date or night out with friends. Keeping your makeup natural when you wear light brown hair will make you look well put together without trying too hard and makes your hair the main feature of your look.
Stars like Gabrielle Union and Nia Long are known for their fabulous hair—and they usually don’t add drastic color to it. Both of these women are brown-skinned; Gabrielle Union has cool undertones, while Nia Long boasts warm undertones. However, medium to dark brown hair looks great on them both, because they choose different variations of brown to work with. A slight lift in her natural brown color makes Nia Long’s face appear brighter, compliments the red and orange tones in her skin, and is a nice balance to her edgy haircut (take note of this, ladies: sometimes it’s best to pick one drastic hair move at a time). Gabrielle Union’s boasts highlights that are modest but noticeable and blend in well with her yellow and blue skin undertones. The color makes her eyes appear brighter as well.
If you’re going natural this spring and want to make your look more interesting, opt for a shade of red that will bring out the undertones in your skin nicely. Kelis does it well here, as the light burgundy shade she picked compliments her slightly cool tones (which is why blue eyeliner looks so fab on her). Faith Evans rocks a different shade of red. Since her undertones are warmer, she can opt for a bright auburn shade.
